Easy ways to add greenery to your space.

We love a home full of luscious houseplants – not only do plants instantly breathe vitality and life into a home, they can also assist in filtering air and provide calming health benefits. What’s not to love? Here are a few tips for bringing greenery in…

Consider where you would like to add your greenery – look at conditions such as how much natural light it receives, so you can select your plantings accordingly. No point adding a stunning peace lily to your home only to find it burnt to a crisp within a week due to its position in the afternoon sun! Do a bit of research as to what plants will suit your conditions and then hit your local markets or nursery.

Look at how much space you have – would a tall plant, such as a Kentia Palm be best? Looks great in a rattan or woven basket! Or do you only have space for a small potted Jade plant (considered to be a plant of prosperity and luck, according to Feng Shui principles)? If you have space, perhaps consider having a grouping of plants in various sizes to create a nice sculptural element.

Hanging plants are a great option for rooms that don’t have spare floor space or if you need to keep cheeky pets from precious leaves. Bathrooms and powder rooms are ideal for hanging pots as space is often limited – look for plants that love a bit of steam such as a Boston Fern or Devil’s Ivy.

Don’t forget your pretty pots – the choices are endless here. Terracotta is classic and simple, looks great in a rustic farmhouse style home. A textured white pot will never date and suits not only a contemporary coastal home but also the beautiful Mediterranean-inspired homes we are seeing plenty of. Prefer some bright poppy colours – you’ll love Jones + Co – a fun way to add some joy and personality, especially if you feel tentative about adding big bolts of colour to your home.

If you are just no good at looking after plants (hey, no shame in that!) but would still love to bring in some greenery, here are a few suggestions –

Enjoy some foraged finds! See what you can find on a walk to the park or raid the garden each week and cut some foliage, flowers, twigs – whatever you can find and throw it in a vase. It’s amazing how nature can lift a space (and your mood!).

Buy fresh flowers regularly – get to know your local florist and see what you can find. There are so many beautiful natives and spray free flowers, helping you to support local and sustainable farming practices.

Artwork is also another super simple way of bringing greenery in – even if it’s not the real thing! There are so many local artists who produce divine floral and foliage-rich artworks – they will look beautiful in your home and you get to support an artist’s journey!

Accessories such as cushions, table linen, bedding – so many stunning fabrics to choose from, full of flowers, leaves and pretty foliage. Oh be still our heart!

Last but not least, what about wallpaper? Again, so many gorgeous options here – the possibilities are endless and oh so fun.

Let us help you choose the perfect option and we just know you will smile every time you walk in the room :)
