Time for a Sea-change.

When our clients spotted this apartment in Coolum for sale, they knew they needed to view it. Like many in recent times, they were in the market for a sea-change and were ready to downsize from their family home in Brisbane. While the apartment was looking pretty tired and dated, they could see the potential. Perched high on a hill facing North, the view is literally breath-taking. It was a done deal. Now it was time to work out a reno plan and get it happening. Enter CT Design!

Fresh paint, newly sanded floors on the upper levels, with new tiles on the lower levels, plus updated cabinetry throughout was the perfect place to start. A fabulous new kitchen in shades of white Ashgrain with hand-made zellige splashback tiles and a smartstone benchtop in Davinci Blanco immediately modernized the space and helped set the tone for a pared back and natural palette. A completely refreshed master ensuite was installed with stunning feature tiles in shades of green, bringing in an element of fun and perfectly reflecting the tones of the treetops visible from the window.

One of the winning features of the apartment was a separate studio at basement level – a perfect space for visiting children while also providing a completely separate home office space that now gives the owners the freedom to work from home. The original staircase to the studio however, was situated directly across the middle of the room, creating a very cramped space that was not functional. We immediately re-designed the staircase to hug the walls as it descends, allowing the studio space to be open and un-cramped. The balustrades were also changed from dated wire and timber to a stunning white powder-coated steel and timber, lifting the style instantly.

Our clients had a vision for something fresh and coastal, without being kitschy-beachy, but also soft, warm and welcoming. No overly bright colours or patterns - it needed to be gentle, elegant and down to earth. This was to be their new home and it had to feel like they belonged here, while also reflecting their big life changing move from the city to a coastal town.

Tranquil greens invite rest and relaxation in this master bedroom

New furniture throughout was chosen specifically for their new compact home and relaxed lifestyle, with classic shapes and oak timber tones. Soft shades of blue and mustard with sandy neutrals feature throughout the upstairs living, complementing the coastal views. The master bedroom on the ground floor, with its treetop and ocean glimpse views, feature earthy tones of green, pairing back perfectly with the feature tiles in the ensuite. Lastly, the downstairs studio is a delicious combination of charcoals, whites, pinks and mustards, creating a fresh and relaxed getaway for the client’s adult children, who absolutely love their parent’s new pad. Who wouldn’t want to come and visit!

Best of all, the clients are absolutely thrilled with their new home. And with hand to heart, have told us that moving has been the best decision they’ve made and so good for their souls. The newly refreshed apartment has fulfilled their vision and they couldn’t be happier. Sitting on the deck at sunset – their new favourite spot - with drink in hand, watching the spectacular colours of nature meander across the sky, it’s easy to see why.

It really is the happiest of stories!
